A medium size brown and white raptor. Head and breast are white with fine streaking. Rest of the body rich rufous-brown. In flight, note white head, black wing tips and rounded tail based. Young birds are dark brown overall with pale streaks on underparts and, in flight, undersides of flight feathers without streaking.
