A familar long-winged raptor of coast and large open water bodies nearly worldwide. Upperparts almost dark brown. Pale head and underparts. Dark eye-stripe that merges into dark brown of mantle. Brown breast band. Female has broader breast band and show dark carpal patch contrasting with pale underwing coverts.
