Common Sandpiper

A small, brownish sandpiper with a straight back bill and short greenish-yellow legs. Underparts white with prominent white patch between wing and breast. Also has distinctive white eye-ring and broad white brow. In flight, uniform brown upperparts contrast with long whte wing bars. Flies with stiff wing-beats, alternating with short glides on down-turned wings. Has an unusual habit of bobbing its tail.

Common Redshank

A medium size sandpiper with prominent red legs and feet. Lightly mottled grey-brown upperparts and whitish underparts with fine dark breast streaks. In flight shows distinctive white secondaries, a feature absent in the rare Spotted Redshank.

Common Greenshank

Similar to Marsh Sandpiper but much larger and stockier. Bill greenish grey, slightly upturned with dark tip. Legs long and greenish yellow. Upperparts mostly greuish, crown, ear-covers, hindback, mantle and side of breast heavily streaked, unlike Marsh Sandpiper. In flight, note prominent white rump and back.

Wood Sandpiper

A medium size, slender looking sandpiper with distinctive heavily spotted greyish-brown upperparts.Long broad whitish brow, straight greyish bill and yellow legs. In flight, uniformly brown upperparts contrast with white rump, also several narrow bars on tail. Underwings pale, unlike the more rare Green Sandpiper which ahs almost black underwings.

Terek Sandpiper

A stocky-looking sandpiper with long, upturned blackish bill with pale pinkish base abd short orange-yellow legs. Upper parts plain brownish grey, underparts white with faint streaking on neck and breast. In flight, upper parts are uniform brownish grey with distinctive broad white trailing edge to secondaries.

Eurasian Curlew

One of the largest shorebirds. Resembles Whimbrel but is much larger and has a longer bill. Female is larger and has longer bill than male. In flight, shows white back and rump contrasting with dark brown upperparts, and largely white underwing coverts, unlike the densely barred underwing coverts of the much rarer Far Eastern Curlew.

Bar-tailed Godwit

Like non-breeding Black-tailed Godwit but more streaked and buffer above and below. Slightly upturned bill, slightly shorter legged. In flight lacks upperwing-bar, has white base to uppertail-coverts, white tail wiht clse dark barring. Underwing whitish.
