Brown Shrike

Combination of black mask, white brow and forehead, and plain brown, not barred, upperparts distinguishes this from Tiger Shrike. Crown entirely grey or brown. Underparts off-white to buff. Female has dark brown mask, brown upperparts and 0ff-white underparts with dark scaling.

Tiger Shrike

Adult male wears a thick black mask, and is grey from head to mantle, with dark scaling on mostly rufous upper parts. Female duller, but shows more prominent black bars on flacks than male, and has white lores ad brow. First-winter bird has dark scaling on warm-brown upper parts and white underparts, an lacks the dark facial mask.
