Kentish Plover

A small plover wiht sandy-brown upperparts and narrow lateral breast patch in non-breeding plumage. Breeding males have rufous-brown cape to nape, white collar, black forecrown and lateral breast patch.

Pacific Golden Plover

A medium size, small headed plover. Non-breeding birds are brown with golden-yellow, black and white spangling on upperparts, buffish brow, and pale brown underparts. Some birds arrived in partial breeding plumage, showing a broad white band extending from brow to neck and flanks, separating upperparts from black undersides. In flight, noted plain brown upperparts, dull underwing and narrow pale wing bar.

Malaysian Plover

A small plover with mottled sandy brown upperparts and a complete white collar. Male has black lateral band on breast sides which extends round the neck. Also note white forehead with black patch at mid-crown anbd black spot behind ear coverts. Legs and feet are often tinged yellowish or pinkish. Female lacks the black markings and appearing generally drabber.

Tibetan Sand Plover (Lesser Sand Plover)

A small plover with uniform sandy greyish-brown upperparts, mostly white underparts, white forehead and brow in non-breeding plumage. Dark grey to greenish-grey legs, with tibia obviously shorter than tarsus, appearing stockier than Greater Sand Plover. Bill short, black and blunt, and the bulge on the upper mandible occurs on the final third of the bill. In flight, toes project only slightly beyond tail tip. Birds in breeding plumage show distinctive balck mask and orange sides of neck and breast band.

Greater Sand Plover

In non-breeding plumage resembles Lesser Sand Plover, but is larger and taller, with a squarer head and more robust looking bill with a bulge on the upper mandible starting midway along the bill. Longer tibia gives it a more lanky appearance. Legs and feet are tinge greenish. In flight, toes project beyond tail.
